Organization Design 4370 Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Organization Design 4370 - Assignment Example These two aspects have provided a competitive advantage to chipotle over its rivals who find it hard to copy it. Chipotle has a centralized organizational structure. Decision making is done at the top management level with very less delegation of power and authority to regional directors and managers. This has made communication between departments very difficult as there are no integrating mechanisms between the departments. Due to the centralized structure rules and regulations are followed to the latter. There are no adjustments in the running of the business as decision making is done by the top management. Socialization is an important thing to chipotle as it needs to identify with the residents of the business area. This will help the company to understand the market better as well as the customer needs. Chipotle has a mechanistic structure. This is because Chipotle decision making is left to the top management and communication is vertical. The reporting relationship is well defined and every employee specializes in one task. There is lack of cohesion between the corporate and the operations departments. The current structure of Chipotle creates a gap between the operations employees and the corporate employees. Creating integrating roles between departments and bringing together cross functional teams to work on development specific problems within the company will help in resolving the flaw in the communication. The current corporate structure is very lean with little overlap in functional areas causing disruption in the event of staffing changes. This can be resolved by cross training of individuals across different units. The company should implement an internal entrepreneurship program to encourage corporate employees to demonstrate the type of people-development that the Restaurateurs are known

France and the United States Essay Example for Free

France and the United States Essay This paper seeks to provide comparative analysis of early childhood education policy between France and the United States. The discussion will focus on the programs origin and what the programs were intended to achieve. The study will look at the focus, of the programs, the beneficiaries and the cost. In analyzing the early childhood policy outcome in the two countries, the paper assesses the successes as well as the shortcomings of the policy programs. The federal government has not developed a policy on early childhood education that is applicable in the nation. As opposed to the comprehensive early child education policy in France. The U. S. government has only been supporting specific preschool programs for those children from poor neighborhoods and low income families. This trend is also evident in the various states which have not been able to come up with early childhood policy that can be used uniformly by education stakeholders throughout the state. Earl childhood education program is largely left in the hands of private education providers through kindergartens. (Mitchell, A. , Ripple, C. , Chanana, N. , 1998, p. 24). The Early childhood education policy by the government is defined in its actions which in regulating the demand and supply of early childhood education services. In implementing early childhood policy, the government provides direct and indirect financial subsidies to private providers of these services in the form of grants, contracts and tax incentives. Provision of direct and indirect financial support to parents of children in early childhood program. This support may be in the form of cash benefits, tax benefits to offset the cost of this service and vouchers to pay for the service. The government also participates by regulating players in the field of early childhood education through legislation. Early childhood education program in the U. S are run on a full day of part time basis and they include pre-kindergartens, kindergartens, compensatory education programs and nursery schools. The other programs that support early childhood education include childcare centres, family support programs, before and after school programs, family type day care homes. Because there is no clear line between the government and private support in this sector. (OECD Country report, 2000, p. 5) There is no clear data concerning the cost of early childhood education in United States. However, the federal spending on the program has been very minimal compared to grade k-12. Studies in the year 2002 reveals that the states spent 2. 5 billion dollars on early childhood education while the federal government spent 6. 5billion on early childhood program. This is in exclusion of funds spent on pre-primary education for special students. This is the contrary of the case in France where the government full funds its early childhood education program. Then enrolment in early childhood program for the year 2002 was estimated at 750,000 with 85% enrolled in private institutions. In the United States, the government has a policy that ensures quality, affordability, and availability of child care for all families. The Child Care Bureau administers federal funds to states, territories, and tribes to assist eligible families including low-income families. The childcare bureaus provide childcare for children when the parents work or participate in allowable education or training activities. Through the Child Care Bureau funds various Technical Assistance projects that promote quality, strengthen program administration are supported. The funds are also used to finance Good Start which is the president’s initiative towards early childhood education as well as carry out research to help policy makers. The child care programs in the United States involved the administrators, parents and other stakeholders than in the case of France that is more regulated from above. According to OECD report (2000, p. 21). Most children are enrolled in private institutions compared to those in public institutions with most parents taking their children for part time programs. This is illustrated in the table below showing enrolment in early childhood education programs in thousands. The only early childhood policy that received direct support by the federal government is the introduction of Head start program to take care of those children from low income families. This program is funded by the federal government of the U. S since it caters for the children of the financially deprived parents from poor neighbourhood. According to OECD report (2000, p. 18) The cost of funding this program has increased steadily, reaching almost $4. 7 billion in fiscal year 1999 and $5. 27 billion in fiscal year 2000. This program was started as a strategy to deal with problems associated with children from poor neighbourhood. Dealing with their emotional, cognitive, social and cognitive deficits ensured a well rounded individual who was prepared to adopt a life style that made them productive individuals from poor homes. The major aim is however to academically prepare students for their primary school studies. According to Mitchell, A. , Ripple, C. , Chanana, N. (1998, p. 34-50). Research shows that those students who had undergone early childhood programs like Head Start had fewer referrals for remedial classes or special education. These students were also more likely to remain in regular classes throughout their public school years. Fewer retentions rate as preschool graduates were less likely to repeat grades. The students maintained excellent scores very few of them had failing grades in their school years. The students were acknowledged by their teachers as having greater social and emotional maturity and had a high probability of completing their high school studies without dropping out. Due development of positive attitude about school at an early age, these students had greater academic motivation, on-task behavior, capacity for independent work, and time spent on homework. Lower incidence of absenteeism/detentions. Graduates had lower incidences of absenteeism and detentions. Preschool graduates had much higher scores on measures of attitude toward school and toward particular subject areas those who attended early childhood education are found to have better self-esteem, greater internal locus of control compared to those who never attend the program. Preschool education is believed to help in preventing unwanted pregnancies among young school girls. The program is also believed to reduce incidences of indiscipline like drug abuse and delinquent acts among students, this some researchers believe is due to the introduction of rules and regulations to students at an early age hence contributing to positive upbringing. Due to improved self esteem developed from an early age, preschool graduates are more likely to participate in social activities like sports and community work. As opposed to those who did not attend early education, the beneficiaries have a better meaning for education and develop high future aspirations. This also contributes to the likelihood of them enrolling and completing their secondary education. These benefits of early childhood education are extending to the society as beneficiaries have a higher possibility of securing better paying jobs hence reducing dependency in the society. There is high unlikelihood that these people will engage in antisocial behavior in the society. (Morgan, G. , Azer, S. , Costley, J. , Genser, A. , Goodman, I. , Lombardi, J. , and McGimsey, B. , 1993, p. 45, 78). The Head Start program is however accused of contributing to inequality in the education arena as those who are considered financially stable have been ignored. This is no longer a shortfall in France as their early childhood policy caters for all children despite their family backgrounds. The increasing number of mothers securing jobs is however increasing government participation in provision of early childhood programs especially in those kindergartens which are integrated in public primary schools. For instance, District of Columbia is made kindergarten attendance a legal requirement for children. (OECD Country report, 2000, p. 14) The diagram below illustrate the increasing number of working mothers with children under age six due U. S policy on Early childhood education and care between 1960 and 1999. Despite lack of comprehensive policy regarding early childhood education, a lot of expenditure has been incurred in supporting efforts towards achieving the same. The figures reported by OECD report( 2000, p. 23) is an illustration of cost of efforts employed by U. S to achieve ECEC as compared between 1992 and 1999 constant dollar reported in millions of dollars. As opposed to the United States, France has a clear government policy regarding earl childhood education. The program is publicly funded and caters for those children between the ages of 2-6 year olds known as Ecole Maternelle. The system has specific programs for those children under age three and it is administered under the Ministry of Education delivered under education auspices of the ministere de la Jeunesse, de l’Education nationale et de la Recherche. (Oberhuemer, P. , Ulich, M. , 1997, p. 27). These programs are freely provided by the government for eight hours during the day including breaks like lunchtime. Extension beyond these hours is optional and those parents who work for longer hours can pay for additional hours that their children are taken care of at early childhood education centres. Since these programs are meant to benefit children and their parents who earn poorly, the additional charges levied on parents take into consideration the parent’s income. Any child starting school has to go through ecole maternelle which is the preparatory level in the education system. (OECD Country report, 2004, p. 4-7). Early preschool education is divided into three sections namely: the little section, middle section and large section. The little section is meant for three year olds, the middle section is for four-year-olds and large section is for five-year-olds. Two year olds belong to very little section. France is also committed to empowering the low income parents just like Head Start in the United States hence the government organizes bridging activities for those who are about to start schooling in poor neighborhoods. Such a program is supposed to familiarize the learners with the academic in readiness for school system. The table below shows the trends in the percentage of children in the ecole maternelle by age as from the year 1960-2002 according to French background report in 2003.

Quantitative changes common engine allows the production of engines ranging from 150 cc to 220 cc for Pulsar variants, creating distinctive enough between vehicles while gaining efficiency advantages. With the dynamics in the market, Bajaj has restructured products, channels and project .Bajaj management system is one among influential bike manufacturers in the Asian market and since the company has tasted success in a pilot project in some other parts of the world. JIT In addition to the uniqueness of the Portfolio Management has been discussed in the previous section, the company is also believed to be in the way Toyota manufacturing for the premium segment bikes. All variants under the premium segment Made-to-order, involving Lean manufacturing and inventory Just-in-Time. This means that there is an optimal use of resources to reduce waste levels and demand-supply match better. Although, customers had to wait a bit longer for this type of ordinary people, lead time maintained from a healthy distribution network provided by both Bajaj outsourced logistics services and exclusive. Marketing Innovation Supply chain Bajaj has been linked to 380 from 483 dealers through mySAP eEnterprise Portal which was performed concurrently with the R / 3 SAP during ERP which enables a seamless flow of information throughout the business chain. Pulsar Mania, a partnership with MTV stunt show Stunt Mania is an example. Bajaj brand is easily recognized throughout India and some other Asian markets where Bajaj has presence. The logo mark with his name written next to the initial B was recently changed to a new font attractive. Ideally, every company wants to be innovative in all sizes, but only a few companies such as Bajaj is a combination of these dimensions. The challenges for innovation Innovation is very important as well as necessary for company to surviving in competition market. For come with innovation company has to face so many challenges. Here some challenges faced by Bajaj Company RD strategy: During the process of new product innovation in Bajaj, the biggest challenge of uncertainty products. Although the RD department has trying best to coming up with new products that can meet the demands and needs of customers. Still there is a chance that the new product will not be welcomed by customers. Uncertainty whether the new product will be accepted by the majority of customers is quite a change for the company to deal with. Another challenge of launching new products is increasing R D costs. When Bajaj decide how innovation will launch a new product, it is necessary to invest large amounts of money to the R D of new products before a new product can bring any profit. Lack of funding: for bring new innovation in company, company need big amount good innovation not come in small amount. At the time of innovation Bajaj need strong financial. Competing competitor: when Bajaj come with new product in market, the success of that product depend on customers need the best example of this is Bajaj innovation product Pulsar is so popular in market while Bajaj Kristal is not get success in market. Change industry stature: while Bajaj come with innovation in management process with TPM (total productive maintenance) Bajaj has to change its whole management stature. Collaboration with other company: collaboration with other company can combine the advantages of both companies, but it will also bring a number of issues, such as loss of autonomy and some conflict. The two companies are responsible for the new organization. States that are not strong and tough enough may lose autonomy in the new joint venture. And sometimes, the two companies are from different countries. There will be a number of cultural conflicts arising from incompatible objectives and not only between levels of management, but also work together that works for different companies before complementary strategic alliances. Evaluate how innovations have changed Bajaj and lead it to todays success DTS-i engine: In the early days, it was the bike fuel efficient and smaller segments that hold shares of Indias leading two-wheeler market. No premium segment of any indication to the launch and success of Hero Honda CBZ in 1999, which informed the huge demand for performance motorcycles. Not later Bajaj took the cue and launched the all new variant in the premium segment, Pulsar in 2001s. The project has been successful since its launch because it gives new life to the performance segment. Although not a pioneer, Pulsar make a performance segment the fastest growing segment in the two-wheeler market with some variants of Pulsar DTS-i and the Avenger DTS-i, Bajaj Auto has the dominating (61%) in this segment. Since variant of Pulsar was launched, following years saw the grading occurs with sportier look. Furthermore, the USP of this model is DTS-I. When normally every bike manufacturer has content with conventional spark plug ignition, Bajaj came with innovative ideas introduced in place of the tw o sparkplugs. DTS-I provides an efficient fuel combustion and better performance in all conditions, with twin spark plugs and 8 bit microprocessor chip. Two sparkplugs means more ignition resulting in increased combustion thereby reducing losses. It is a pilot launch eventually turned out to be a success. An initiative, including new variants such as the Pulsar 200 DTS-i and Pulsar DTS-Fi (fuel injection), which comes with more upgrades and has been well received in the market. Unique features such as fixed projector fairing, clip on handle bars and rear disc brakes, diagnostic functions, digital indicator, high rigidity frame and high performance front and back suspension system makes this model a benchmark for other players. After 4 years of amazing success with Pulsar 200, Bajaj stopped production yet and focused more on variant of Pulsar 220 and Pulsar 135 also brought about recently. Another important step by the company is in the matching market demand, the company has also in troduced crystal-an automatic scooter with many convenience features, along with excellent fuel efficiency DTS-i engine, a first segmented across the Indian market. Distinctly Ahead captions not merely since Bajaj believe in the importance of a clear future. In line with this, an initiative in the field of IT has undertaken to supply just in Time (JIT) and inventory which means make-to-order for a specific segment. The entire system is these vendors networked by a single LAN, enabling efficient information flow. Supplies were triggered by E-Kanban, and stock levels are determined by the number of vehicles and engines produced as a single request. This makes it more outsourcing vendor managed inventory (only similar and not actual outsourcing) so that we can concentrate on our core business. Innovation in Management Bajaj Auto management innovation make separating from other companies is the way they maintain a well-balanced product portfolio of the following strategies cannibalization. Cannibalization outsiders shelf product to replace it with another product. Although most firms off the shelf product for two main reasons: One is when the product is in production fails to meet expected revenue and earnings and the second when the product reached its saturation point and can no longer continue, Bajaj believes in determining the lifetime of some variants of itself outer shelf variants thus well before the saturation level. In the case of Pulsar variants that have become the backbone of Bajaj since its launch in 2000, Pulsar 200 satisfy specific market segment performance as the bike has recently been postponed although it has raised predictable profits. This was made to capture market share and grow the market Pulsar 200 Pulsar 220. Resource companies believe that the company is able to achieve w hat they wanted. To be innovative organization must favor the interaction, networking, permanent comings and circumstances, all kinds of negotiations that allow for rapid adaptation and this is all that is present in fertilizers has made it possible to be an innovative organization. In Product Portfolio Management, the first step is to create a product strategy, the next is to allocate the resources needed for the project and finally assess the risk-return projects. Bajaj involve end users in product strategy and thus make a more affirmative marketing research. Costumers were asked to participate in surveys. This brought in more ideas for the company on what the market expects in reality from being conventional. Therefore, the company can use mapping techniques to find the right model for new launches and it goes again. Product portfolio can be brought into a balanced flow, with a strong and innovative concept that is unique in the new Bajaj. In order to capture the lost market entr y in the bike segment, the company launched 100cc Discover 135cc Pulsar in the second and third quarter of 2010 after closing the production of Pulsar 200. According to a recent annual press meet, Mr. Bajaj, Chairman Baja was quoted as saying, We have reinvented our marketing strategy and this was confirmed by the growth in market share thanks to Pulsar and Discover. The key lies in specialization especially when it means addressing a bigger market. Company is believed to have added that refined product portfolio to accommodate more space for bikes that allows the scooter to make way. At the exit scooter segment and about cannibalization strategy he has said Sacrifice is an important part of strategy and is essential for success. Consequently, we had to make way scooters for motorcycles. And further, to have a diversified portfolio, the company has put each variant to a specific market; Search for commuter segment and Pulsar for performance segment. An effective strategy was finally about strong brand positioning at the front-end while keeping things simpler at the back-end comprising design, manufacturing and development. This emphasizes the efficiency of manufacturing facilities have similarities in the assembly line and lead user involvement alone while they design products.

The Assassination Of John F. Kennedy Essay examples -- essays research

In January of 1960, a young man by the name of John F. Kennedy was sworn in to uphold the office of President of the United States of America. He was assassinated on November 22, 1963, when he was only 46 years old. There is lots of speculation about the way he died. Here are just a few questions concerning his death. Who or how many people were involved in President John F. Kennedy’s assassination? This is a question that has baffled many people for 33 years. Some of the main questions are: Was Lee Harvey Oswald the lone assassin? This question may never be answered. Is there a possibility that there could have been another rifleman? What is the minimum time to get three shots off with the Mannlicher Carcano bolt action rifle? Why did Jack Ruby shoot Oswald? Was he trying to protect himself or show loyalty to his President? Did Fidel Castro have President Kennedy assassinated? Were the CIA and FBI involved? What about the â€Å"mob†; did they have any logical reason to kill the President? What is the story on the â€Å"superbullet†? How can one assassin shoot three shots at a man in a limousine going 11.2 mph under five seconds? Among the most crucial questions to be considered in determining the identity of the President’s assassin are the number of shots fired in the course of the assassination, the time elapsed between shots, and the location of the site or sites where the shots were fired. A great deal of evidence rides on these questions: the number of wounds, the path of the bullets causing each wound, the position of the rifle believed to have fired the recovered bullet and its fragments, the position and number of empty cartridge cases believed to have been fired, and visual observations by bystanders. In addition, a mass of evidence has been collected from the people that witnessed the shooting. I will try to explain or figure out what went on during the 22 of November in 1963.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  There are many theories on the assassination of JFK. The first theory is that Robert Kennedy, the brother of John and also the attorney general at this time dated a known mobsters’ girlfriend, and Robert also tried to get one of the biggest court cases in the history of the U.S. put upon the mob. In order to get back at him, they killed his brother. Later, they killed him when he was going to run for President. There is some more evidence that the mob ... ...mes. I think that the CIA was mad at President Kennedy for not helping them out at the Bay of Pigs, so they managed to convince Oswald that they would give him lots of money to kill the President. When they hired Oswald, they had one of their own men on the grassy knoll to shoot Oswald after he shot President Kennedy, then the CIA’s man would kill Kennedy. This supports the theory of why the people heard a shot over the fence at the grassy knoll. Another things that supports my theory is that they never found the third bullet. When the man behind the fence did not do his job, they sent Jack Ruby to finish what they started. They had to quiet Oswald or he was going to talk and tell who was really behind it. Who was really behind it? This is a question that the world will never know the real answer to. This concludes my theory on how President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Does Travel Really Broaden the Mind?

Question: Travel is often said to influence travelers by making them more open to other cultures and new ideas. Does travel really broaden the mind? What are some other effects of extended period of travel? Nowadays, travelling has become a lifestyle for people, and it is expanding fast. In a hectic schedule, people are trying to have vacation by travelling. Reasons why people choose travel are because people want to discover new things, have recreation far from the hectic schedule. A lot of motives also affect people to travel.Usually they want to explore, discover, and relaxing. Some say to broaden the mind, but some say it is only a waste of time and money. The advantages of travelling give us cause and effect. People said that travelling influence travelers to have different perspective, different point of view. When we are going on a trip, the culture of the destination creates a new perspective and a new way of living our life. People also tend to copy their surroundings, which is why I can say that travelling also make us have a new good attitude. The effect of these 2 advantages that I stated is our behavior, which can affect other people as well. Next, we discuss about the disadvantages of travel and the negative effects of travelling. Dangerous thing can happen during travel. The safety of the transportation is one of the dangerous things that could happen. Diseases issues are also one of the reasons why travelling can be such if a danger (Travel exposes, 2009, p. Online). For example, when swine flu disease attacked that time, people were scared to travel and they always used mask. The other reason is some people had a perspective that people won’t always need physical travel only to broaden the mind, because the idea expanding the mind can be obtained through having a smart conversation, read books, et cetera (The previous, 2009, p. Online). The last reason is because of other country’s problem. The conflict of a travelling destination i s not what people expect on a vacation. The examples are: policy problem, religion conflict, government issues, et cetera (Does travel p. Online). So there are 2 opinions that are acceptable, but it has not answer the question. Does travel really broaden the mind? People’s opinions does matter, but I can say that it does broaden our mind. The journey itself has given us a new experience in our life. We try new things; we learn new things, et cetera. Reading books does help us broaden the mind, but wouldn’t it be great to experience it ourselves and learn it in our own ways? Mark twain once said â€Å"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow – mindedness. † That is why it affects our perspective.Reaching the conclusion of the essay, we know that through travel people learning and adapting to the culture and diversity of mankind. We also find out that some people won’t always need travel to a new area for broadening the mind. For me, travellin g is a mind broadening and also an experience that can teach us the way we behave. So, the conclusion is travel does broaden the mind but if we spent all of hour time just to keep â€Å"broaden our mind’ it’s not wise as well. In life itself, balancing things are also needed. So to end this essay I can state that the answer is a yes, but it all comes back to the reader: what do you see? A rage in harlem Essay Example

A rage in harlem Essay Example A rage in harlem Paper A rage in harlem Paper Rage in Harlem Chester Homes When reading the book a Rage in Harlem by Chester Homes it brought me to the realization how language is not Just a way to communicate with people. But rather it can be used in harmful ways where people can be deceived, cheated on, pushed away, hurt, and etc. Language and communication is the strong connection it brings about between two people. Communication between person to person can either make a persons day or it can kill them inside where what was said and done to them will never be forgotten. In the first chapter off Rage in Harlem we see how in general Jackson and hank are cheating on the city in which they live in. Jackson, a colored man in the novel is in love with his girl Immovable and gives Hank, the only man who has the special paper to change the value of money, ten dollar bills to change into hundreds. We see how Jackson lies to the bank and tells them he won it playing a game and to check if it was real. Jackson has no fear or shame of what hes really is asking . When they get caught by the marshal, hank, immovable, and Jodie were able to run away. But as Jackson sits there getting arrested, he uses different techniques to get out of the mess he was in. The first technique he uses is Just this once, marshal, Eve never been arrested before Im a church man, I into dishonest. We see how he tries to show him he comes from a honorable place where he is honest and a true man of god . He tells him hes a respected man, hes a church gore. When Jackson sees that doesnt work he tried a different technique to tell him there brothers and that they should care about each other. He said you a colored an like me you ought to understand that . Since they were both black and both people who come from the same backgrounds and can understand each other, he tries to tell him to let him go this once there brothers as it says. Brothers are always there for each other. He also tells him where we poor colored people goanna get any money from? Jackson tries to get the marshal to understand that its hard to get a good paying Job having that color, and to try to understand where the temptation came from. When Jackson sees that nothing he is going to say is going to persuade he marshal to let him off the hook, he comes up with a different technique. He says marshal ill pay you two hundred dollars if you let me off automatically everything changed. Suddenly the marshal understands Jacksons temptations and knows where hes coming from and says but I can see that youre an honest man Just led astray by a women. And being youre a colored man like myself, give me two hundred bucks and ill let u off the hook . When you bring in the money, we see how easy it is for a person to loose his respect and what he believes in. Just slip him some money under he table and youre covered. What money does to us these days is scary. And how Jackson can tell the marshal that he was doing it to buy a coat and etc. For his wife. He shouldve taken responsibility and not blame it on others. In chapter 2 we also see how immovable has also been lying and maybe cheating on Jackson. Her sister Margin quotes and if you dont know by this time that she is a lying b****,you is a fool. immovable told Jackson she is waiting to get divorced to a man down south to get married to him. I mean who says shes not lying? If she lied about how she found Thats something Jackson has to sit down and think about and find out the truth behind all these lies.. In life, we see as many people try to get their way around things through different methods. Communication is a great thing but we have to be careful to not hurt people, and lie and deceive others, rather to use it the right way, because thats the only way you will make it life. You might get your way the first time around, but the next time it happens, youre going to be paying a much heavier price. Just do things the right way in life, its the way to go, and you will have a Joyous life!
